Five Christian families all with gay or lesbian children are shown within this documentary. There are Protestant and Jewish theologians  speaking and clips of preachers and pundits and news clips of people in the street. Scripture and biblical scholarship are discussed. A thesis of the film is that much of Christianity’s homophobia represents a misreading of scripture, a denial of science, and an embrace of quack psychology.

I needed this film after watching the Whisperer church new clip earlier. I feel the need to educate myself and not just take the word of church heads on what the bible says like so many do. Many Christians don’t even know what they’re talking about when they use the bible as evidence to justify hate. Most people do not understand the language and culture of the bible. They don’t understand the time it was written in and they do not understand the meaning of the language of that time. Many take the bible far too literally.

This documentary was fantastic. It gave good information showing the scripture that is usually used to justify Christianity’s homophobia and also spoke of why they were not literally saying homophobia is an abomination. It showed how several families overcame their initial teaching by the church to see that there is noting wrong with homosexuality or to at the very least accept their children.
